Sam Altman has responded to Elon Musk’s $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI, suggesting that the move is an attempt to stifle competition. Altman told Bloomberg TV that he doesn’t think Musk is a “happy person” and that his whole life may stem from a position of insecurity. The OpenAI CEO emphasized that the company is “not for sale” and dismissed Musk’s bid as an effort to slow down their progress. Musk’s xAI is building rival AI models, positioning itself as a direct competitor to OpenAI. Altman expressed a desire for Musk to compete by building better products rather than resorting to legal tactics and other strategies. Tensions between Musk and Altman have been escalating for years, with Musk accusing Altman and OpenAI of betraying their founding principles and Altman downplaying Musk’s legal moves as attempts to undermine OpenAI’s progress. Musk’s close ties to President Donald Trump add a new dimension to the ongoing feud between the tech CEOs.
