Mass Resignations from Eric Adams’ Administration Spark Chaos in NYC Government

NEW YORK — Mayor Eric Adams’ administration is in disarray as four deputy mayors have announced their intent to resign, citing concerns over the Democratic mayor’s handling of immigration issues. First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams-Isom, Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi, and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Chauncey Parker all plan to step down, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The resignations follow a contentious meeting between the deputy mayors and Adams at Gracie Mansion on Friday night, as reported by POLITICO. WNBC first reported on the pending resignations, with the Daily News and New York Times confirming their likelihood.

The deputy mayors expressed concerns that Adams is aligning with President Donald Trump, a Republican who is unpopular in New York City. This concern arose after the Department of Justice, under Trump’s administration, dropped federal corruption charges against Adams, a case seemingly linked to the mayor’s cooperation in deporting migrants from New York City.

Federal prosecutor Danielle Sassoon resigned over the matter, alleging a quid pro quo, a claim Adams’ attorney, Alex Spiro, vehemently denied.

Adams is scheduled to run for reelection on June 24 and held a campaign-style event in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon, where some protestors appeared with signs reading “Eric Adams is a Republican.”
