Apple has revitalized its iPad lineup with significant updates to the iPad Air and entry-level iPad, aiming to boost declining iPad revenue. The iPad Air now features Apple’s powerful M3 chip, offering a 34% faster CPU compared to its M1 predecessor, enhanced graphics with hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and up to 10 hours of battery life. It also introduces a new Magic Keyboard with a 14-key function row, priced at $269 for the 11-inch model and $319 for the 13-inch version. The 11-inch iPad Air remains at $599, while the 13-inch version is $799.
The entry-level iPad has been upgraded with Apple’s A16 processor, doubling the starting storage to 128GB and offering 30% faster performance. However, it lacks Apple Intelligence due to the A16’s incompatibility with the AI platform. Both models retain the Center Stage camera and a 12MP rear camera. Preorders are available now, with the new iPads hitting stores on March 12.
These updates come as Apple’s iPad revenue declined 6% in 2024 to $26.6 billion from $28.3 billion in 2023. In Q1, iPad revenue rose to $8.1 billion from $7 billion the previous year, helping to offset flat iPhone sales. Apple’s stock remained unchanged on the news, with the company’s shares down 4.9% year to date.
